Hypixel review: the largest minigames network on Java

An editorial overview based on our monitoring data and the project's website: modes, versions, licence, player counts, pros and cons, and how to join.

Important: this is an editorial overview by Minecraft-Servera, not an advertisement. It relies only on our monitoring data (as of 28 October 2026) and on what the project's official website says. Player counts and versions change — the live numbers are always on the server page.

In short

Hypixel is an international minigames network for Minecraft: Java Edition. It is the busiest server in our catalogue: about 27.8k players were online when we checked on 28 October, and the peak we have recorded is 30,200. You need a licensed (premium) account. The network accepts clients from 1.8 to 26.3.

Game modes

Based on player tags in our catalogue and sections of the official website, Hypixel offers:

  • Bed Wars — team matches where you defend your bed and break the others'. More in the Minigames guide.
  • SkyBlock — a large standalone game on an island in the void, with its own rules page on the site. See SkyBlock and OneBlock: getting started.
  • SkyWars, Duels, Murder Mystery, Build Battle — from player tags in our catalogue.
  • The Pit, The Walls, Mega Walls, Blitz Survival Games — named on the project's website (the last three are listed among the network's "original games").

At the time of writing the server's MOTD advertises a Halloween event, and the website announces a playtest of the new Ravengard project from 30 October to 2 November, recommending version 26.3 for it.

Store and rules

The website has a store selling ranks, Hypixel Gold, SkyBlock Gems and subscriptions. Server rules, SkyBlock rules, terms of service and a privacy policy are published separately — read them before your first game, especially the part about mods and cheats.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • a huge player base — short queues in popular modes at almost any hour;
  • many modes in one place, from quick matches to long-term SkyBlock;
  • supports both old 1.8 (popular with PvP players) and current 26.3;
  • detailed rules and a large Discord community.

Cons:

  • no way in without a Java licence;
  • English only, which makes rules and chat harder for non-English speakers;
  • no Bedrock support: you can't join from a phone or console (see the Bedrock / play on phone collection).

How to join

  1. Make sure you own Minecraft: Java Edition (see Licensed or cracked: what to choose).
  2. Start the official launcher and pick a version between 1.8 and 26.3 — the latest is easiest.
  3. Multiplayer → Add Server → address mc.hypixel.net.
  4. Details and common errors are covered in How to join a Java server.

Similar servers are in the Minigames and BedWars collection.
