Where server descriptions come from: how our automatic overviews work

Many servers in our catalogue have a text marked "auto-generated". Here is what data it is built from, how we check facts and why the owner's description always wins.

Our catalogue has thousands of servers, and most owners never filled in a description. So that cards aren't empty, we show an automatic overview — a short text in Russian and English marked as auto-generated. Here is how it works and where its limits are.

What the text is built from

A language model writes the overview, but only from facts in our database:

  • name, MOTD, versions and platforms (Java, Bedrock, crossplay, own launcher);
  • categories and tags, licence, whitelist, mod loaders and the mod list from the ping;
  • language and country, player count and peak (except for servers flagged by the fake-online detector), uptime;
  • the server's latest news and wipe dates;
  • the title and description of the server's website home page and of its Telegram channel — fetched politely, no more than once a week.

What we don't pass on: the date the server first appeared in our monitoring (the model confused it with the founding date) and any player data.

How facts are checked

Every text is checked automatically before it is published. It is rejected if:

  • it contains numbers or versions that aren't in the facts (for example "1.25" or an invented player record);
  • it mentions a mode or feature that isn't in the server's data: if the facts don't include SkyBlock, the text can't talk about SkyBlock;
  • it has links, advertising, calls to action, or words like "regularly" or "actively developing" that the news doesn't support;
  • sentences repeat.

A rejected text is rewritten once with the error pointed out; if that fails, nothing is published and the next attempt comes no sooner than a week later.

When a text appears and updates

An overview is created only when someone opens the server page, never in bulk for the whole catalogue. It is refreshed when the server's stable facts change (versions, categories, platforms) and the text is more than a month old.

The owner's description always wins

If a server has an owner description in at least one language, the automatic overview is not shown. The best way to describe your project in your own words is to verify ownership and fill in the card — see How to promote your server.

Important: an automatic overview retells data; it is not the editors' opinion. If it contains a mistake, report it on the server page: a moderator can hide or regenerate the text. Editorial reviews with pros and cons are labelled separately — for example, the Hypixel review.
