How to add a server in Minecraft: Java, phone and TLauncher

Where to paste the IP in Multiplayer and on a phone, servers with a custom port, why a server disappears from the list and Direct Connection vs Add Server.

Adding a server saves its address in your server list so you can join in one click. It is done inside the game.

On PC (Java Edition)

  1. Launch a game version the server supports.
  2. Open Multiplayer and click Add Server.
  3. Enter any name and paste the server address, e.g. mc.example.com. A custom port goes after a colon: mc.example.com:25577.
  4. Click Done, select the server and Join Server.

Keep Server Resource Packs on Prompt or Enabled — many servers rely on their own textures. Direct Connection joins once without saving the address.

On phone and tablet (Bedrock)

  1. Tap Play and open the Servers tab.
  2. Scroll down and tap Add Server.
  3. Enter a name, the Bedrock address and the port (19132 by default).
  4. Save and tap the server to join.

Only servers with Bedrock support accept phones — see mobile servers. Consoles cannot add servers; see the Bedrock guide.

Common problems

  • The server vanished from the list — the list lives in servers.dat in the game folder; a new install or another game folder starts empty.
  • Can't connect — the server is down, the address has a typo or it is meant for the other edition. Check it with the status checker.
  • Outdated client / server — change the game version.
