What an RPG server is
An RPG server turns Minecraft into a role-playing game: character levels, classes, NPC quests, dungeons with bosses and items with stats.
Core pieces
- Levelling — XP from mobs, quests and professions raises health, damage and mana; often there is a skill tree.
- Classes — warrior, archer, mage, rogue, healer, each with abilities.
- Quests and NPCs — story chains and daily tasks.
- Dungeons — group content with boss loot.
- Custom items — rarities and abilities, usually with a resource pack you should accept on join.
Plugin MMO vs modded RPG
Plugin RPGs run on Paper/Purpur and work with a normal client. Modded RPGs need a Forge, NeoForge or Fabric modpack and a stronger PC, but add far more content. Minecraft-Servera shows a "Mods required" warning on such servers.
RPG is not RolePlay
RolePlay servers are about acting in character; RPG servers are about mechanics and progression.
